Congratulations to Shane and Fawn Smith of Grand Marais, who were drawn from the correct entries. They win a one-year subscription to the Cook County News-Herald (a $30 value).
Jannine and Dan Bockovich of Silver Bay did not win, but they shared an interesting story with their correct entry. About the tree plantation, Jannine wrote, The planting took place around 1930. Dan and his dad, Hal, thinned it out in about 1970. They had borrowed a chain saw from a neighbor and it caught fire while cutting a tree. Hal had to toss it in a run-off creek to put the fire out. He brought it to the Schroeder hardware store to be repaired. When asked what had happened to it, Hal said, It caught fire so I had to baptize it.
Thanks for the funny historical tidbit, Jannine and Dan!
